- A positive skills assessment in a nominated occupation on the relevant list
- Competent English at minimum — IELTS 6.0 / PTE 50 in each band
- At least three years of relevant post-qualification work experience
- Degree, diploma or trade certificate assessed as comparable
- Employment references detailing duties, hours and salary
- Health examinations and police clearances for every country of residence
- Sufficient settlement funds where the visa stream requires them

Questions
Skilled Migration & PR — common questions
The legal minimum is 65 points, but that figure is close to meaningless in practice. Competitive scores for Subclass 189 have generally sat between 85 and 95 points for non-pro-rata occupations, and higher for accounting and ICT. Subclass 190 and 491 invitations often land lower because state nomination adds 5 or 15 points. We assess your position against the most recent invitation rounds rather than the statutory floor.
Not for Australia's Subclass 189, 190 or 491 — these are points-tested and do not require employer sponsorship. New Zealand's Skilled Migrant Category and Green List routes do require a job or job offer with an accredited employer. Employer-sponsored options exist separately in both countries.
Realistically 12 to 24 months from first consultation to visa grant. Skills assessment takes 2 to 4 months, the wait for an invitation is anywhere from weeks to over a year depending on your score and occupation, and visa processing after invitation typically runs 6 to 12 months.
Yes. Partners and dependent children under 18 are included as secondary applicants on the same application. A partner with a positive skills assessment and competent English can also add 10 points to your score, which is often the cheapest available uplift.
